Since 2012, I have freelanced mainly for Plum Films in the area of development across a very broad range of international projects including a children’s feature film, science fiction, thriller, horror, book adaptations, art house and children’s television. This included developing and pitching programme ideas to CBBC and CBeebies, advising Plum on their projects, script editing and working closely with writers to develop and shape their ideas.
Since 2011, I have had many roles as a Tutor within the Film & Television department at Edinburgh College of Art (The University of Edinburgh) where I have worked with students on final year Film & Television BA (Hons) and Film Directing MA projects (drama, documentary and experimental). I am also the Production Tutor for for the Film Directing (Documentary) MA course and have delivered seminars on professional practice.
Since 2022 I have been a project tutor for the Screenwriting MA at Edinburgh Napier University (Screen Academy Scotland), working with students on their final projects to deliver a feature film or television series as well as on their 30 minute film or TV scripts. And as of 2025, I am the development tutor on Kino Eyes European Movie Masters.
From 2002 until December 2010, I was employed by Scottish Screen/Creative Scotland (now Screen Scotland), first as their Short Film Executive and from 2006 as one of three Development and Production Executives. As Short Film Executive, I was directly responsible for commissioning, developing and overseeing the independent short films and schemes funded through the Scottish Screen National Lottery Fund (Tartan Shorts, New Found Land, Tartan Smalls, This Scotland). I also oversaw independent initiatives that received finance from Creative Scotland/Scottish Screen.
Prior to working at Scottish Screen I produced a music video for Sony, plus three short films for BFI/Channel Four New Director’s scheme; BBC Bristol’s 10×10 scheme (winner of BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Best Short Film); and BBC Scotland and Scottish Screen’s Tartan Shorts scheme (nominated for BAFTA Scotland New Talent Award for Best Short Film). I furthered my film experience as part of the industry team at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and by working in production roles for independent film and TV projects.
Professional training has included: the ARISTA Story Editing Workshop, Olsberg SPI/ Nordic Film and Television Fund’s Business Strategies For The Independent Producer, and NFTS Scotland’s Script Editing Today.
